Park History
The Red Rock State Park property was acquired by the Arizona State Parks Board in 1986 and the park was opened to the public in 1991. The park's 286 acres were originally part of the Smoke Trail Ranch, owned by Jack and Helen Frye. Arizona's famous Oak Creek meanders through this scenic park, creating a diverse riparian habitat abounding with plants and wildlife. This riparian habitat, the land-based ecosystem closely associated with Oak Creek, provides the setting and the opportunity for Red Rock State Park to offer a center for environmental education.
Herbarium and Natural History Guides
Guests can learn about the native plants and animals of the area through the park's guide books. Subjects include birds, plants, shrubs, trees and reptiles. The complete collection can be viewed with prior arrangements.
Trail System

The family-oriented trail system is well marked for your safety and pleasure. The 5-mile network consists of interconnecting loops, which lead you to vistas of red rock or along the lush greenery of Oak Creek. The Eagle's Nest Loop and the Apache Fire Loop are joined together by the Coyote Ridge Trail. Eagle's Nest is the highest point in the park with an elevation gain of 300'. These three major loops are connected along the riparian corridor by the Kisva Trail, which also leads up to the short loop of the Yavapai Ridge Trail. The Javelina Trail takes you into the pinyon/juniper woodlands and back to the other loops. Rattlesnake Ridge rises just above the Twin Cypress Picnic area. Stop by the visitor center desk for detailed information before starting out on the trails. Bikes and horses are only allowed on designated routes.
School Field Trips
The "Connection Program" is Red Rock State Park's school field trip environmental education program. The program is designed for students from K-12th grade. There is a group-size limit and it is recommended that reservations be made early in the school year due to its popularity. Registration must take place at least one month prior to your visit.

Group - Use Facilities
Facilities: Twin Cypress Picnic Ramada, Wedding Tree, Visitor Center roof top: Noteman Seating Area, Sentinel Seating Area, Cottonwood Picnic Area.
Amenities: Ramada – Water, electric, tables, grills. Visitors Center Rooms – chairs, tables.
Maximum Group Size: Ramada – 75 with existing tables and up to 250 with additional tables/chairs, user must provide portable tents. Visitor Center roof – 50 people, Wedding Tree – 250 people.
Picnic Areas: Yes
Reservation Policy: Normally we will take them 6 months in advance. For a wedding we will take 12 months in advance. Payment must be received to secure facility 30 days in advance.
Restrictions: No pets allowed, pack in pack out trash, no swimming/wading.
Group Use Fees: Ramada - $25/4 hours for groups up to 75; $40/4 hours for groups over 75. Weddings - $50/4 hours for Wedding Tree, $50 for room rental, $50 for Visitor Center Roof Top, $50 for Sentinel Crossing or Noteman seating areas.

- No firearms, BB, pellet guns, bows, or fireworks.
- Do not remove vegetation, wildlife, rocks, or artifacts.
- Keep all sound devices to an individual hearing level.
- Be sure to pack out trash you bring into park.
- Visitors must stay on designated trails.
- No rock climbing.
Interpretive Programs
Guided Nature Walks - (Daily 10:00 a.m.) - 1-1/2 hrs.
Special Program - (Daily 2:00 p.m.) 45-minutes.
Bird Walks - (Wed. & Sat.) Call for times.
First Sunday Program - Once a month - (2:00 p.m.) This program includes presentations by noted speakers and experts in the field.
Moonlight Hikes - (April - Oct.) Call for times
Exhibits
The hands-on educational exhibits are based on the theme of biotic communities. The panels bring to life the variety of habitats found within the park.

" The Natural Wonders of Sedona", Movie is shown on request. Visitors should inquire at the desk.
